What is Potenza™?

Potenza is an innovative system by Cynosure® that combines the skin rejuvenation abilities of radiofrequency and microneedling. Traditionally, microneedling stimulates the release of growth factors and the development of new collagen fibers, which come from the tiny needling injuries and the resulting healing process. 

When combined with microneedling, radiofrequency energy reaches deeper into your tissues to enhance and speed up the healing process. Additionally, the combination of microneedling and radiofrequency helps break down scar tissue that’s firmer than the rest of your skin. 

Despite the extensive transformation going on within your skin after Potenza microneedling, the treatment doesn’t destroy your skin’s surface and therefore requires a shorter recovery time than other treatments offering comparable results.

What should I expect during my Potenza treatment?

Dr. O’Connell may have some personalized instructions for you to follow in preparation for your Potenza procedure. They might include adjusting certain medications, avoiding certain medications, and rescheduling if you develop a rash or skin reaction of any sort.

When it comes time for your procedure, Dr. O’Connell cleanses your skin before numbing it with a topical product. She uses Potenza’s handpiece, with four radiofrequency modes, to target precise areas of skin. The handpiece has several different tips with single or multiple needles. The radiofrequency energy travels through the needles and deep into your skin. 

The entire treatment typically takes no more than 45 minutes. You might notice a bit of redness or dryness shortly after your treatment, but this diminishes quickly, and you can go back to work the next day. The results from Potenza last for five years or longer, and you can book follow-up treatments whenever your skin needs them.
