Your Options for Clearing Away Sun-Damaged Skin
As summer comes to an end, and the season gives way to autumn and winter, you may be noticing some unwelcome reminders of your fun in the hot, summer sun. Perhaps you see brown spots, fine lines, or emerging wrinkles. Your skin may be blotchy and uneven after hours and days by the pool, at the beach, or enjoying outdoor dining and events.
Research shows that up to 80% of the visible signs of aging are related to ultraviolet (UV) light exposure, a problem we treat daily at Laguna Beach Aesthetics in Laguna Beach, California.
Our board-certified aesthetics medicine specialist, Adrienne O’Connell, DO, is passionate about helping you minimize your areas of concern by combining her experience and expertise with the most innovative cosmetic dermatology and laser services and treatments.
Here she offers her top recommendations for clearing away sun-damaged skin, and our team provides all of these services in the comfort and privacy of our office.
Chemical peels
A chemical peel uses a custom solution that Dr. O’Connell applies to your trouble areas. Once the medical-grade acids penetrate, she peels them off. This removes the outer layer of damaged skin so new, softer skin can regrow and take its place. Chemical peels are especially effective for wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots.
Fractional CO2 laser
The innovative pixelated carbon dioxide laser is a nonsurgical resurfacing tool that makes intentional wounds to remove your top layer of skin. It also warms up the underlying layers of skin, which provokes new collagen growth. Fractional CO2 lasers are often used for sagging, dull, sun-weary skin.
Intense pulsed light (IPL)
IPL is a therapeutic skin regimen that is also frequently called a photofacial. The treatment targets specific pigments in your skin and works to break up areas of discoloration. IPL is great for sun spots, hyperpigmentation, freckles, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Microneedling
Dr. O’Connell uses ultra-thin needles to make tiny, purposeful punctures in your skin, which responds by boosting collagen production and generating new cells and tissues. The overall result is a revived, rejuvenated appearance. Our team uses microneedling to help improve laxity, uneven texture, brown spots, freckles, discoloration, and wrinkles.
AquaGoldⓇ treatments
AquaGold is an alternative to microneedling that uses exceptionally small needles to deploy platelet-rich plasma, retinol, antioxidants, and other solutions to address skin laxity, scars, uneven texture, fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration.
